Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was reportedly confronted by security operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday upon his return from Cairo, Egypt.
The allegation was made by his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account shortly after the incident.
According to Adekeye, security operatives approached El-Rufai as he disembarked from his flight and attempted to take him into custody.
He stated that the former governor declined to comply, insisting that he would only cooperate if presented with a formal invitation.
In the statement, Adekeye said, “Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation.”
He further alleged that the operatives seized El-Rufai’s passport during the encounter, reportedly collecting it from one of his aides.
As of press time, there was no official statement from the relevant security agencies regarding the incident.
